The Lion Match Company
Based on recent customer reviews, The Lion Match Company is facing significant dissatisfaction regarding product quality and after-sales service. Customers consistently mention that matches fail to ignite reliably, with many reporting damaged clothing and curtains caused by sparks or defective heads. A recurring theme is frustration with the complaints process, where consumers describe lengthy delays, unanswered calls, and dismissive responses from staff. Concerns also extend to unresolved promotional prize fulfilment and internal HR or medical aid matters, painting a picture of a once trusted household brand whose reputation appears to be slipping.

If it was possible to give zero stars I would have done that. My father passed away in February 2024. As a retiree of The Lion Match Company I contacted them to sort everything out in order for my mother to continue as seamlessly as possible. I was immediately palmed off to the company managing the pension fund (sorted out in no time at all) and Bonitas. I was happy to sort the matter out myself but in the process of completing the paperwork Bonitas required, I was asked to state who was going to pay for the membership premiums. Back to Lion Match I went. I tried for 6 weeks to speak to the HR person. Never did. Promises were made that she would return my call. That didn't happen either. Eventually I threw my hands in the air. A year later someone at Bonitas suddenly "found" the Death Certificate I sent 12 months earlier and (with or without consultation with Lion Match) and absolutely zero consultation with me, decided to cancel my mother's membership. A woman with dementia who is heavily reliant on the chronic meds she is taking. Under threat Lion Match re-instated her membership. Now I'm fighting for her doctor's consultations for 2025 to be paid. Bonitas keep sending emails stating that either the benefits were exhausted or the claim was in excess of the benefit limit. This is difficult to understand that not a single cent was paid for a single consultation at all. I understand that they won't pay the full amount of the consultation as it's in excess of the benefit limit. I keep querying it via Lion Match and Bonitas keep siting the same reason for non-payment. I have run out of patience and stamina. ***

This company make inferior quality matches that on a strike burnt my India nylon shirt from India and my curtains. I call them as they were procrastinating. I eventually got a meeting at their office after numerous calls and was given a cold shoulder. They wattsup me a R30 voucher and told me im lucky they gave me R30. On enquiry I realized that this was common as many others had the same issue. This company is pathetic

We have aquired a box of matches that are poor quality. The matches have damaged my shirt and curtains which full disclosure was made to the company with proof. They immediately took the matches via a courier and sent it to their lab which is a smoke screen for consumers. They prolong time as stress out the consumers. After about 8 months they come with silly excuses for their poor quality. They people in management is of poor quality and *******. I am now seeking assistance of the courts so this is stopped.

This household name has supp**** quality matches for decades . I bought today's version and find that these standards have crashed . Tiny wooden sticks with a minimum bead of igniting stuff on the end . Shameful .

This company costed me by burning 🔥 my shirt and curtains. When lion matches are used the sparks go everywhere and burn contents. The company lies as I have letters from them. They are doing disabled people down and not truthful

This company makes substandard products that causes 🔥 and I have proven this to then. Mr. Moosa that works there advised me that the directors are not respoding to me. We ate incurring huge costs in communicating and submitted my damage report but nothing from them only promises.
