Holiday club almost impossible to cancel your membership

Tried to cancel our membership 32 days prior to the anniversary date which is 01 December 2021. I was then told that an amount of R10053 (next year's subscription) must be paid before I can exit. I was told the Holiday Club paid suppliers thus the cancellation fee. I cancelled in writing before the Anniversary date to prevent disputes like this. I was amazed to see how many complaints against this company, is listed on this platform. Surely there must be something wrong.
