Smelly room and dirty

My family booked room for 5 people to stay at The Farmhouse in George on 8 January 2015. On arrival we noticed the one room had an atrocious smell. The following day, the cleaners mentioned that they had noticed that and thought it was from previous guests cooking in the room. We removed the small bar fridge to try and alleviate the stink - to no avail. The room had also not been cleaned properly. Subequently, we joined our girls, who were sleeping in another room because we couldn't cope with the smell. One of the single bunkbeds had a clump of hair in it and there were dirty footprints in the bath. Upstairs in the entertainment area we found a used plate with chicken bones on it. The owner, upon correspondence apologized for the smell, however, continues to deny that there was anything else wrong. He also refuses to reimburse us for the cost of the one room which we couldn't use - we paid upfront. Highly disappointing experience, leaving us with a sour taste in our mouths.
