The Faculty Umhlanga

I app**** for a position at The Faculty in Umhlanga. I am a qualified educator with a bachelor of education degree and four years of teaching experience, as well as Tefl certified. The recruiter, Delaine Preethlall called me on Wednesday, 27/08 and asked me a few questions that mirrored the questions on the online application, in fact she just clarified the answers. She had proceeded to ask me if I have any facial piercings, to which I said I had a small piercing and she informed me it wouldn’t be allowed and I would be required to remove it during lessons and if I was still interested in the position I could let her know and she would set up an interview. A few minutes later I had realised I had a few questions so I called the number back, a receptionist answered and took a message for her to call me back as well as my name and my number. On Friday, 29/08 I received an email from Delaine, saying that I did not meet the requirements and I was unsuccessful. I was quite surprised as to what disqualified me as she did not return my call, so I called to retrieve a email address to respond to the rejection email as I would like to know where I faulted. The receptionist insisted I speak to Delaine, which I was reluctant to at first but I agreed. She again, proceeded to ask the same questions as the previous time and then informed me that they don’t necessarily do an interview and they have a telephonic call system that assess the calls and decides if you do not meet the requirements and if I had answered yes or no to a certain question then it would automatically rule me out, to which I suggested that I should have been informed. I do acknowledge that just because I am a graduate, it does not make me eligible to automatically qualify for any job but a professional procedure should be taken when it comes to handling recruitment. I understand that there are far more suitable candidates, but if a company is dealing with candidates they should be awarded the respect and recognition they have put into obtaining the qualifications, by at least being handled professionally.
