Severe Burns and Long-Term Skin Damage After Sunbed at The Cutting Room

Hi everyone! In November last year, I tried a sunbed at The Cutting Room for the very first time. I had only ever used a tan can before and had no idea what to expect.

The sunbed I was placed in was cracked on the inside. I was told it would not harm me or do any damage. The lady assisting me was in the process of replacing some of the bulbs – some were new and others were old. She assured me that this would not cause any harm.

When I asked how long I should stay in the sunbed, she advised me to do the full session of 30 minutes. Shortly after, my body was badly burned. The next day, I woke up with blisters and severe burns. I could barely sit or lie down from the pain and was unable to go to work for three days. I lived on Burn Shield and drank lots of water to recover.

When I informed her of what happened, she told me it was “normal.” She told me the problem was my skin, not her sunbed. I was completely and utterly shocked, confused and disgusted. I never went back. To this day, almost a year later, I still have dark discoloration on the back of my legs and buttocks, with a clear line showing the difference in skin tone. It makes me feel self-conscious and uncomfortable.

I am sharing this experience so that others are aware of the possible risks and can make more informed decisions.
