The Courier Guy ignoring specific instructions

Having bought two pairs of Padel shoes online to ensure I get the best fit, I sent the pair of shoes which didn't fit back to the store using The Courier Guy. I specifically instructed The Courier Guy to not damage the box in which the shoes are, because it needs to be resold in the box by the company I bought it from. The Courier Guy ignored my specific instruction and now I am liable to pay for the damages (20% of the Padel shoes price), because now it can only be sold as a used product by the company. Nothing regarding what my responsibility was personally communicated to me. I will never use this company for courier services again.
