Stop calling rural areas “high‑risk” when you simply don’t service them

I am extremely frustrated with The Courier Guy’s handling of deliveries to rural areas. Instead of being transparent and stating clearly that they do not offer door‑to‑door delivery in many rural locations, customers are told that their addresses fall within a “high‑risk zone.” This wording is misleading and unfair. There is an important difference between:

an area being operationally difficult or outside a courier’s service footprint, and an area being high‑risk due to crime.

In my case, there was no incident, no attempted delivery, and no evidence of risk — just a refusal to deliver, followed by a redirection to a locker far from the delivery address. Calling this a “high‑risk area” shifts the blame to communities instead of acknowledging service limitations. What makes this more frustrating is that other major retailers regularly deliver to the same areas using third‑party couriers, or they clearly state upfront when door‑to‑door delivery is not available. With The Courier Guy, this only becomes clear after an order has already been shipped. If The Courier Guy does not service rural areas for door‑to‑door delivery, that is their business decision — but they should be honest and precise about it:

Say “we do not offer door‑to‑door delivery to this area” Not “this is a high‑risk zone”

Customers deserve transparency, not vague labels that stigmatise rural communities and avoid accountability.

Until this is addressed, I would advise anyone ordering to or from rural areas to confirm delivery options upfront, or be prepared for last‑minute changes and inconvenience.
