Mishandling - 70% Goods Damaged
I purchased goods to the value of R4 400 and asked for them to be collected from the Consignor and sent via The Courier Guy. I also supp**** some cushion packaging product for this purpose. Consignor appealed to me to use his Courier service but I declined as my wife and I have used The Courier Guy for a number of years for our respective businesses. The goods, in 2 x Cartons and painted in red marked Fragile twice, were collected at about 15h00 on Friday 17th May in Benoni and delivered to my factory on Monday 20th May in Pinetown, KZN. The 2 cartons contained 7 x resin cast replica decor items. On opening the cartons - 5 of the 7 items were broken in a number of places and found to be irreparable. A report and photographs were sent to a Customer Service Staffer at The Courier Guy by email. Further photos were requested of the packaging which were sent. This morning we were notified that the claim had been rejected for a number of reasons. I called The Courier Guy and spoke to a Customer Service lady (name withheld at this point). I was informed that the goods were incorrectly packed - I rep**** that I have been in the paper and packaging business for 35 years and have been running my own packaging business for 16 of these. I also mentioned that the Consignor has been sending his goods out for 25 years and has never seen so much damage to the contents of not 1 but 2 cartons. When I mentioned being in the packaging business there was a change of tack and I was told that shredded paper is not recognised by them as a viable protective packaging material - no mention was made of the other packaging materials. I was told that camera footage of the parcels being unloaded and re-loaded at the depots, monitored by security personnel, showed no signs of mishandling. I asked to see any footage showing the 2 x cartons in question - this was declined and I was told it was private. The Courier Guy staffer changed tack again saying they had a strict policy regarding our goods and told me to refer to their terms conditions. I then said that when we made out the Waybill and mentioned, verbatim " Very very, very fragile" and that the goods were resin cast replica decor items why was our request for collection not denied. There was no response save to say that I would be contacted later today. I advised that if I was not contacted, as promised by The Courier Guy, by close of business today I would lodge a negative review. This did not happen and their silence has been deafening - no wonder then that their official 'Trust Rating' is a lowly 2.3.
