False delivery information

My delivery was suppose be here Friday the 2nd of September. I received an sms to say it was out for delivery on Friday morning. I waited the whole day for them and there was no delivery. Later on Friday evening I tracked my parcel just to see that they've updated the status to "receiver not at delivery address". How can they update their status to that if they weren't even here! No one even phoned me to say that they were at my address for delivery. I'm so disappointed in their service as I urgently needed my parcel!
