Damaged parcels

Is there aomething in Consumer Law that protect the customer from courier companies damaging your parcels? Any complaints are just answered with the standard response of "you didnt pack your parcel well enough" .... which is not always true .....so I want to know, if you took all reasonable steps to avoid damages, the couriers accepted your parcel, damages occured caused by them, why do they accept no responsibility?
