Backed in by a Courier Guy bakkie
I popped into Dunkeld Shopping Centre to collect alterations from a tailor. Upon arrival, I was directed by the car guards to an available parking bay and parked where instructed.
Approximately five minutes later, when I returned to my vehicle, I discovered that a courier company's bakkie had parked behind me, effectively blocking me in. I attempted a three-point turn, but any further manoeuvring would have risked causing significant damage to my vehicle.
I waited for approximately 10 minutes before the driver and his assistant returned. Despite seeing that they had blocked my vehicle, they did not immediately move the bakkie. Instead, they spent a further seven minutes sorting parcels while I remained unable to leave. During this time, another vehicle parked in front of the bakkie, further restricting movement.
When I raised the issue, the driver was dismissive and challenged me to continue taking photographs after I started photographing the vehicle and its registration number. Only then did he eventually move the vehicle.
What is particularly concerning is that this appears to be a designated loading zone. However, if it is indeed a loading zone, it is poorly designed, as it is impossible for vehicles parked in the adjacent bays to exit safely when a vehicle is parked on the yellow line. No motorist should be trapped in a parking bay or forced to risk damaging their vehicle because of the layout or the conduct of delivery drivers.
The entire experience was frustrating, unnecessary, and avoidable. I trust that management will investigate the matter and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in future.
