Warranty / Guarantee not honoured
My wife bought me a vape device called a Reuleaux RX2/3 from The Cloud Lounge Vapery in Fourways, in December 2016. It was a good-looking product recommended by the staff for my budget. It worked great for a few weeks but in January 2017 it stopped working with a battery error. An online search revealed this was a common problem and a software reset on the device would fix it. It didn't. On 12 February I posted it on a Vape Whatsapp chat and was told by other shop owners that the device has a 6-month warranty. Cloud Lounge owner, Ivano, commented that the same device is a problem for them, having fixed 8 from the batch he sold and that he's not stocking them ever again as a result. He said I must take it in for repair, which I did and his staff repaired it - the device being barely 2 months old. I was told by the staff that because these give so much trouble the warranty is only a month - Consumer Protection Act is gonna love my submission to them soon.
Within 2 weeks the device died again, I was going away and wanted a vape device. I "booked" my device in to get fixed and Ivano gave me his personal vape to use while I was away - at this point I was LOVING the customer service and the extra help. A week or so later on 4th March I collected the device after it's second fix. On 21 March I mentioned the device giving the same trouble again and was told that the suppliers in China were still making up their mind about replacing the device and there was no feedback. I was told that they would do a warranty claim and when the new devices came in I could get one, or I could have the new one booked into the shop stock and I could take another make at the same value. This was in March. The device has been dead for a few months now, and the warranty has still not been honoured.
I brought it up in the same Whatsapp group and on 14 July I was told by Ivano that there is a response from the manufacturer with a full history and one of the staff, Kirst, would be in touch. I said that was meant to happen before and there was no contact (as per a Facebook post), and was told that she didn't contact me coz she was waiting for a final report from him. Was told the report would then be e-mailed to me. Now the story changed to "I said that I would contact the supplier and try arrange a replacement unit for you."
It's 20 September and I still have no report and no device. The device should have been changed under warranty which is 6 months as per CPA, not 1 month as per shop's feelings on it. Two repairs is too much on a new device costing over R1000. The deal between the shop and the supplier should have no bearing on me or my warranty - especially when I have it in writing that this is a bad device and the shop will never stock it again. All I want is a NEW replacement device at the same retail value or a refund - as per what I'm legally allowed to ask for according to the CPA. I do feel bad for doing this because it's a great shop with great people, but that's no reason I should lose out when I worked hard for the money I spent on the device.
