Very bad service and experience

We had the misfortune of staying at the BIG FIVE GUEST HOUSE. The suburb in which it is located is often impacted by power failures, and to address this, the guest house has installed two very large generators, directly in front of the rooms. The generators are the size of a small car and make an incredible noise. They operate for most of the day and night. We were in one of the rooms, opposite one of these generators, and we might as well have stayed next to a running diesel truck. Our room was filled with diesel fumes, as the exhaust outlet is close the room, yet we could not open a window, due to the noise. It was extremely hot, there was no aircon, only a ceiling fan, which did not work. We were given a small standing fan, but it was of not much use. There was also not fresh milk in the fridge. We could not sleep at all, due to the noise of the generator outside our room and the diesel fumes. The assist at reception was unable to move us to another room and the owners were away. We contacted the owner, who angrily stated, "How am I supposed the smell that there would be a power outage" and put the phone down in our ear. If you know that you are subject to frequent power outages, and acquire generators, you place these away from the rooms, in an enclosed area to minimize noise and the effects of the diesel fumes.

We immediately book at another establishment at 06h00 the next morning, after a sleepiness night, and an unpleasant, unhelpful experience from the absent owner, and "ran" away as fast as we could.

I would suggest that you avoid staying at this guest house at all costs. Not only because of the extremely noisy generators, the diesel fumes, broken ceiling fan and lack of milk, but also because of the rude, unhelpful and apathetic owner.
