Holding my deposit Hostage

Lay-byed a bed on Friday the 25/05/2018 where the sales person had not explained the "conditions" and I didn't sign a contract for this lay-bye. Just got a receipt for the down payment of the lay-bye. Went back on the Monday 28/05/2018 to cancel the lay-bye because i and the sales persons advised me that because its their month-end I should come back on Monday the 4/06/2018 (still no explanation about their "conditions) as they don't have cash in the store. Returned to the store Monday 04/06/2018, where the sales person proceeded to tell me that he is only giving R250 back of my R500 down payment. I disputed this with him telling him when did he explain this to me, he then proceeded to tell me did I read the "conditions" at the back of my receipt. I told him that he didn't advise me of this when I made the lay-bye and neither did he the 2nd time I returned to the store to cancel it 2 working days later. He told me that he doesn't care and I proceeded to ask for the owner of the stores number and name which he gave to me. Called the owner and he proceeded in the same nonchalant way that he will only give me back R250 as they have a R250 handling fee, I advised him that this was not explained to me not once the 2 times I've been to the store. I'm disgusted at the Service I received from the Bed shop Rissik street in the Joburg CBD. I then proceeded to report the store to the Consumer Ombudsman and hopefully I will get a full refund. I would advise anyone buying a bed from The Bed shop to not do it as these Franchisors are all con artist and their employees are very ***********. The owner is a guy called Fred and his sales person is a Freddy Plaaitjies.
