Not credited to fit towbars
We got a towbar fitted on our vehicle from Texas towbars. We only put 2 mtb and 2 road bikes with a bike rack on our vehicle. We never used the towbar since this year after we got it fitted in December 2022. After about a month that we first used the towbar we saw that the bike are very loose on the towbar and looked like it’s going to fall off at any given moment. When we got home the towbar was completely loose and started doing inspection. We saw the the towbar was fitted on the spare wheel well of the vehicle and it was busy tearing the body of the car. We contacted the owner of Taxas towbar and he came out to assess the problem and put in more plates drilling more holes in our vehicle assuring us the problem is fixed. We tested the towbar again and the problem was not solved. He came out again drilling more holes and fitted more brackets saying this will solve the problem. Problem still not solved. We gave him 2 chances to come and fix the problem and fit it correctly and it’s still not fixed. We took the car to another Fitment centre. They had one look at the towbar and the wiring and started laughing because it’s not even on the chassis of the car where the owner of Texas towbars stated the car has no chassis that’s why it’s fitted on the spare wheel well. They also stated that the place where he fitted the towbar is ******* and is a danger to our lives and other road users lives because it could have torn out at any given moment as the plate where he fitted the towbar on is only 1.6mm thick. Afterwards we contacted the insurance and they send out the assessor to assess what the problem is and to look at the damage on the vehicle where he also stated that where it’s fitted it’s *******. We contacted the owner of Texas towbars and asked him for a refund. We send him several messages and emails where he just ignore us and don’t even bother to reply on messages nor emails. We also found out that he is not even sabs approved and no insurance company will pay out any damages if something should happen. Now he keeps blaming the bike rack but he advertise bike racks on his website with a link to where you can buy bike racks
Quote from his websit “It doesn’t matter what keywords you searched on - we can help you. Whether you just want a tow bar to attach your bike rack to, or hook up a trailer or a boat, or you need a tow bar for the business bakkie - we invite you to talk to us.”
Thank God we never pulled anything or put on anything heavy on that towbar. I will suggest that you stay very clear and very far away from Texas towbars and they fitting towbars *******ly and is not sabs approved.
He leaves us no other choice to involve our lawyers to get the situation resolved.
