Tenda Customer support couldn't support a feather.
I believe it is easier to just to follow the email and see what a disgusting waste of time this company is and the sear fact that that they have no desire to help., Before email, i made a phone call to them and i was told that they have sent me an email to open communications, that never happened, then a few days later i call the same person and they said they had passed the message on to get someone to call me, 20 minutes later I called another number from the site and spoke to someone that sounded like they knew what they were doing. After a 25 minute conversation I was asked to put it all in an email so they could forward it to technical. 15 Minute later the same person calls me because they "Just got a message to phone this number". At this point i told them i was about to hit send as i was just checking the spelling of my email.
Anyway the emails go as follows November 06th - Me to Them Good day Further our telephone conversation I purchased 2 AC6 AC1200's to use them both as AP in my house and garage. I set it up with the original firmware V15.03.06.50_multi, but it didn't function like i wanted it to, so i upgraded to V15.03.06.51_multi, and that also didn't function like i wanted it to. I even upgraded one of them before applying any setting in case that was a problem, but it all does the same thing. I can be assured that this is a firmware issue and not a hardware issue as the same thing happens on both the routers 1. AP mode will not let the IP address be changed, It picks a random DHCP from my DHCP server, and that can change anytime the device is rebooted. This function should allow for a static IP Address to be set for future configuration. (tendawifi.com wont work as i have 2 Tenda AC6 in my network) reserving the MAC Address dosent work as the AC6 now wants to be the DHCP Server, and this cannot be switched off as it will swtich itself back on after reboot.) 2. When typing in the password to access the router UI, the password shows at all time. Clicking the key to the left of the password box hides the password, but as soon as you click back into the box the letter appear. 3. The Tenda App is not compatible with this router, so the option to have the app should be removed, or the app should be updated to allow this AC6. Obviously the priority is number 1. and the other 2 are things that should be looked at. Hope this can get sorted out as soon as i only have a small window to send back the units at "Unfit for purpose" as the units themselves are not technically broken. Thanks
November 12th I called them to ask what on earth was going on as i had not heard anything from them, but only got voicemail so i left a message to complain i had not heard from them and that i would take this further, the least they could have done is follow up with me.
November 13 - Email from them to me Good Day
Sorry I had issues with my mail Technical and firmware department should contact you by today.
Regards
Well that didnt happen.
November 16th Email me to them 10 Days i have been waiting, if this is the kind of service Tenda give out, then i am afraid i will have to post this up on hello peter. This is disgusting, and i now dont have my 7 day return to fall back on.
November 16th Email them to me Hi
I spoke to technical guy. He said he had resolved you issue and will reply to you asap.
Regards
Resolved they say... mm?
November 16th Email Tech them to me Hi
I hope you are well.
With regards to your concerns, here is the answer: 1. 1) In AP mode, it will obtain IP from upstream DHCP server generally. And we recommend you reserve the IP and MAC on upstream DHCP server basiclly. What is more, you can change the LAN IP of AC6 to be the same segment with your upstream DHCP server as well. It will be similart to static IP for AC6. 2) For tendawifi.com, you can use it to access the one you connected to the LAN or WiFi of AC6. Otherwise, you may login any one of AC6 randomly when your PC is in the same network with both of AC6. 3) Generally, if your AC6 connect to your network, the DHCP server on AC6 will be disable. If you disconnect AC6 from your network, and use it seperate, the DHCP server on AC6 will be enable.
2. It is a design of our Web UI and there no security issues with this, please don't worry about this.
3. Actually it supports the smart phone APP. When you enter the webUI, you can turn on the button of Tenda APP to green and then add your tenda account to it, then you can use the smart phone APP to do the remote control.
Should you have any doubts please feel free to contact and thanks for your advises.
Best regards
WAIT WHAT?????? How is this a resolve? My response to them again November 16th Me to Both of them
First of all
"1) In AP mode, it will obtain IP from upstream DHCP server generally. And we recommend you reserve the IP and MAC on upstream DHCP server basiclly. What is more, you can change the LAN IP of AC6 to be the same segment with your upstream DHCP server as well. It will be similart to static IP for AC6."
When this is done the AC6 wants to be the DHCP server, and even if you switch that off in setting, then next6 reboot it turns itself back onto the DHCP server
As i already said in my original email
"reserving the MAC Address dosent work as the AC6 now wants to be the DHCP Server, and this cannot be switched off as it will swtich itself back on after reboot.)"
"2) For tendawifi.com, you can use it to access the one you connected to the LAN or WiFi of AC6. Otherwise, you may login any one of AC6 randomly when your PC is in the same network with both of AC6."
I have BOTH connected to the LAN, so this dosen not work either, hence the need for static IP addresses. as also stated in my original email "(tendawifi.com wont work as i have 2 Tenda AC6 in my network)"
"3) Generally, if your AC6 connect to your network, the DHCP server on AC6 will be disable. If you disconnect AC6 from your network, and use it seperate, the DHCP server on AC6 will be enable."
I am not lookuing at generaly, i am looking at it being in AP mode, and NOTHING in AP mode on a networks should be in control of the DHCP, that is just bad practise.
Moving on to the next point
"2. It is a design of our Web UI and there no security issues with this, please don't worry about this."
This is again bad design and a firmware update will fix this, it is just laziness not to get it right.
"3. Actually it supports the smart phone APP. When you enter the webUI, you can turn on the button of Tenda APP to green and then add your tenda account to it, then you can use the smart phone APP to do the remote control."
Clearly not on the app i downloaded as it dose not recognise any Tenda devices on my network.
So everything you have sent me is as a "Solution" is not a solution at all, and if you had actualy read my email you would see i had already answered most of your "workarounds" as not suitable or working.
So please, why can a proper firmware update noit be done to fix these flaws,.
I have waited 10 days just to told what i already know , and not a fix in sight.
I know this might sound like a lot of jargon, but this is how they think they can tread customers, they didnt even read my original email.
Tenda, you need to get your act together both in tech, and in communication.
November 17th Nothing from them, so Im posting here.
