Tempest car hire ripped me off

On Friday the 22nd of March I booked a car with Tempest to travel to Mpumalanga. I had made a booking online then had to change the booking when I got to OR Tambo because the person that the car was booked under forgot their licence. So we changed the booking to be under myself. Initially we had booked a Toyota Starlet, automatic with unlimited kilometres and it was about R2400 for the weekend and the deposit was about R7200. When the lady at the airport was changing the booking to my name we instisted the booking remians the same in regards to the unlimited kilometre because we would travelling for around 500km a single trip. We were then given an option between a Polo vivo and a Hyundai i20.

When I was doing the booking online I was given 3 options with different kilometres offerings with 3 different prices. I chose the highest because it had unlimited kilometres.

Post the trip, the car is retuned with no issues and was told to just await the refund and invoice. My refund was only R5000 because according to the invoice I was charged about R1800 for the extra kilometres. I call the customer care centre billing department and was told that the car was booked for only 200 free km per day. When I try explaining to the lady on the phones she tells me there’s nothing she can do and I must call the lady that assisted me at the airport and take it up with her. I try explaining the different price options on the site and she insists no such exists. Bear in mind no email was sent to confirm the latter booking from the airport even though the lady had said we’d eventually receive it as they were experiencing network issues.

All I want is my money back!
