DO NOT TRY TO SAVE MONEY ON INSURANCE

Please be careful with insurance. I do not consider a first amount payable of R12 000 in respect of any claim to be worth the risk. Rather take a limit on the km allowed and the maximum amount of insurance allowed - risk is then about R3 500. The risk you take is much bigger than the premium you save.

Also be aware that if you have booked the car through a broker, Tempest themselves cannot alter the insurance to any other amount. Other rentals which appear more expensive, might in fact be cheaper because more insurance is included in the deal.

Our rates are built on multiple influences, waivers being one of them. We offer Super Waiver and Standard Waiver. Super Waivers have a lower liability amount than the Standard Waivers however the daily rate on the Super Waivers may be higher

Thank you for your response. I had been under the impression that the Super Waiver could be arranged at the time of pickup (booking was through JustCarHire) but the Standard Waiver was already cast in stone. I will be more aware next time that the insurance cannot be varied other than through the broker, who we could not reach by phone. Some people might be happy with a big risk - I found it an uncomfortable experience. Tempest is very good, nice car, courteous staff.
