Dangerous, unroadworthy and unchecked vehicle

<p>My wife and I hired a car from Tempest Care Hire at Cape Town International Airport the 9-10 December. I booked a group B vehicle and requested at the desk if I could have a VW Polo, that I generally hire on quick visits to CT. Tempest told me that they could only give me a Hyundai I20. The vehicle had +-65,000 km on the clock.- very strange that rental companies give you cars with this mileage. I accepted what else could I do? This was my first drive with a Hyundai i20. We drove off and a few kilometers later I felt very uncomfortable with the vehicle and thought that what a bad car this was, and questioned how anyone would like such a car. My discomfort was that when pressing the accelerator pedal my foot was also touching the brake pedal and when pressing the brake pedal I was also touching the accelerator pedal. At first I thought maybe the car was built like this as no-one would think that a car rental company would give you a vehicle that is dangerous or potentially life threatening or unchecked? I adapted my position of my right leg and foot, so that I could manage the situation. It was a short drive as we stayed over at a friend’s house in Somerset-West. We left for Georg the next day with the vehicle. During the drive to George I had to concentrate not touch both pedals at the same time. It happened a few times when trying to slow down, pressing the brake pedal but also pressing the accelerator pedal. At times when I wanted to increase speed to pass a vehicle pressing the accelerator pedal and also pressing the brake pedal. This did not seem right! I gave the car in at the George tempest Car Hire facility and reported the matter immediately. The staff at the facility said that the pedals also looked strange to them but they could not confirm it as there was no other Hyundai i20 there to compare it to. After discussing this with other vehicle owners and `inspecting other Hyundai i20 there is not question that Tempest Car hire gave me a faulty vehicle that is most definitely a dander to its occupants and to other road users. The seriousness of the matter is that if any person driving a car like this without experience could most likely cause a serious accident. Thinking that my wife, my children or any other person could have rented a car like this, makes me very angry!</p>
