Taking ownership

I lost my job and wanted to take ownership of the stuff i am renting as i won't be able to pay it in the months to come then i am told that i can only take ownership after a year of having the stuff. This is useless as i have the money now and do not want to loos the stuff as it is all i have left i can't believe they won't even help rhere clients.
