Rejected claim, still requests payment
I rented a tv from teljoy and we moved houses in February. I missed a payment and some *******s broke into the house and stole the tv. I reported the theft to SAPS and filled out a form that was sent ro Teljoy. The consultant then told me that I need to pay my account up to date in order to claim. I did that an then I received a rejection with this:
We do apologize for the delayed. Thank you for bringing your account up to date, We appreciate your efforts Regarding the arrears amount, as per our terms and conditions, under Risk Waiver: 7.1. Teljoy, being the owner of the Equipment, hereby elects to retain the risk of loss or damage to the Equipment, other than in the following instances, in which events the Customer will be liable to compensate Teljoy for the loss of or damage to the Equipment: 7.1.1. Where the Customer is in arrears with any rental payment due; Unfortunately, bringing your account up to date after the units have been ****** will not help. If your account had been up to date at the time of the burglary, we would have been able to assist.
My understanding was that they decided not to continue doing business with me and was prepared to close the accoun. Now I get requests to still pay the monthly installment. Requested feedback if I am still liable to pay a tv that I no longer have but have not received any feedback on this. My understanding is that even though a client is in arrears with an account, Teljou still have theit own insurance on a product, which they owns and will definitely claim from the insurance. So now they are getting paid twice for one item. Obviously the replacement tv will go to a new customer.
