Insurance Horror Story

I took up insurance with Budget Insurance in June 2023, the onboarding process was excellent. I claimed on the 3rd of September of the same year, I was promised feedback in 15 days, my claim was rejected in October (30days after) with the reason being a report from an accident reconstruction specialist with allegations of recklessness and hiding information, I went to the internal dispute Team to challenge the rejection, I submitted images that I'd sourced from the towing company that the insurance company and specialist did not have that contradict the specialist report, they promised a response within 10 business days, the internal dispute resolution Team came to me after around 45 days to uphold the rejection having done no new work and with a clear lack of knowledge of the case, with no sound reason, they then referred me to an internal adjudicator for a ruling, I then went to the Ombudsman with my case as I'd had enough of the terrible treatment that I received from TIH. After my initial submission to the Ombud, TIH responded with a series of allegations to the ombud. The Ombud gave me an opportunity to respond to these allegations, I did just that, with images taken just after the accident, mapped mages using the coordinates from the vehicle tracker to map the direction of travel of the vehicle, TIH interviews of people who were at the scene as well as the audio recordings of myself logging the claim with Budget Insurance (TIH) the version of events given to the specialist by the TIH loss adjustor was totally different to what I'd given on the phone. TIH's last response to the Ombud is made by the same company that did the accident reconstruction report, both the company and TIH completely abandon the report and the initial allegations they made, to make brand new allegations to uphold the rejection of my claim. The Ombud has ruled with TIH and advised that I take the matter to court, this means that I need to pay for legal services as well as an accident reconstruction specialist to look at the case and produce a report. I'm happy to share my experience in more detail with anyone who's interested, not looking for comp. I just wish I'd come to Hello Peter and looked at the reviews for TIH before I insured with Budget, I did not know, many people do not know.

Hi  Boipelo,

Thank you for your feedback.

We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with the outcome of your claim.

However, you may follow the Ombudsman's advice and escalate your matter further.

Kind Regards,
The Telesure Team

Thank You. I'm aware that I can still escalate the matter further, I'm also aware that the cost of that escalation, from a reconstruction specialist, to legal costs (especially when the onus is on the insured to prove that he/she did not commit any of the allegations leveled by the insurer), is likely to be more than the costs to repair my vehicle and move on from this. What I wanted to do with these posts is to inform people of what I wish I knew before I insured with Budget. :)
