Unfair warranty

We bought a Russell Hobbs Ceraglide+ steam iron from Checkers St. George's Square, George, Western Cape on 25/01/2024, which suddenly stopped heating up. The store didn't tell us to register the product for the second year of warranty. I called the customer care centre and was told the warranty is now void, although it is still under two years from purchase. Please advise.
