Russel Hobbs - Warranty Issue

I bought a Russell Hobbs RHB-315 1.75 L Glass Jug Blender from Game in Brooklyn on the 31-10-2018. The blade had a slight play in it the day I took it out the box, but it worked so I didn’t think anything of it. I tried using it the other day and the motor spins but the blade doesn’t. The black gear on the underside of the jug spins independently of the blade. I’ve hardly used it so I found it strange that it’s already broken. I took it back to Game as the box says it has a 2 year warranty, but they said they only back up the first year of the warranty and that I need to contact Russel Hobbs for the second year of the warranty. Fair enough. When I contacted Russel Hobbs, they said in order to qualify for the 2 year warranty I needed to register the product on-line in the first year of purchase. No one tells you this beforehand though!!! So even though it was still within the warranty period, they said there is nothing they can do for me. I didn't even get an apology. So I had to buy the part from Russel Hobbs which only cost R120. You’d think that their customer service department would just replace the part, especially since it’s still under warranty.

Definitely the last time I buy Russel Hobbs. I had the previous model Russel Hobbs blender before this and it stopped working about a week after the 2 year warranty had ended so I just sent it for recycling. I hoped the newer model was an improvement.

We also had a Russel Hobbs kettle which started leaking like a month out of warranty. I think they used to be a good brand, but gone of the days of a quality product. I’ve unfortunately also bought a few of these blenders as gifts for people. I’ll give them all a heads up of the complicated warranty conditions, and remind them to stay away from Russel Hobbs in future.

Oh yes, I see. I found it in fine print on the bottom of the box. That’s quite a sneaky move, knowing that most people won’t ever look at the bottom of the box, and that if they haven’t registered on-line within the first year, Russel Hobbs will never have to honour the 2 year warranty. Smart move.

Would you consider putting this information on the top of the box in future for everyone to see? It's fine to have terms and conditions, but they need to be clearly stated. The 2 Year Warranty sticker on the side of the box is ambiguous and misleading.

Thanks
