Misleading sales marketing and unexplained card swiping
I would like to raise a concern about an interaction with a Tectum Legal Services / Legal Cover salesperson at a shopping complex. A salesperson approached me and spoke about a grocery benefit. During the interaction, he asked to see my FNB bank card and then swiped it on a speed point machine without first clearly explaining the purpose of the swipe or obtaining my permission. Everything happened very quickly, and I was uncomfortable with what had happened. I did not provide my ID number, cellphone number, address, or any other personal information. I did not enter my PIN, sign any documents, sign an electronic pad, or agree to take out any legal cover product. No payment was made and I received no SMS, email, or receipt. When I said I was not interested, the salesperson told me he needed to swipe my card again to "cancel" because my information was already on their database. I did not understand this explanation and refused to allow another swipe. I later saw that the document involved referred to Tectum Legal Services / Legal Cover, which was different from what was initially explained to me. I would like Tectum Legal Services to investigate this matter and confirm whether any application, membership, or debit order instruction was created using my details. I would also like an explanation for why my card was swiped without my informed consent.
