Terrible after sales service at Tafelberg Diep River

Absolutely horrible service since June 2025. We have been having constant issues with our Bosch fridge that is freezing and is only 3 years old. The fridge has an extended warranty which we paid a lot for (over and above paying for a premium product like Bosch). We have had service agents come out five times and the fridge was repaired three times. The one service agent from Bosch said that there is nothing further that can be repaired and the fridge will have to be replaced. The fridge is still freezing now in February 2026 and each time Tafelberg has not provided any solution aside from sending service agents out who don't know what they're doing. I have been told that I am not packing the fridge correctly which is a lie, and on occasions when the fridge has been virtually empty, it's still freezing. I also specifically asked one of the agents if the way in which the fridge is packed makes a difference, to which he said no. This is absolutely ridiculous and I have lost so much of money in food that is freezing and spoiling in the fridge. I was offered a loan fridge from the branch today while my fridge gets taken in to be assessed at Bosch's warehouse. The state of the loan fridge is **********, has one shelf and is visibly broken and damaged. Furthermore it did not fit in the space where my fridge was. I am positive no staff member at Tafelberg would use something in that state so to offer it to me as a customer completely undermines me. I am now without a fridge, having to throw out all the food that has gone bad and they have said they can only deliver another loan fridge on Monday (the fridge was taken on Thursday). I have purchased every single appliance in my house from Tafelberg Diep River and after this experience, I will never purchase from them again. Their after sales service is non existent and absolutely unacceptable and I have been beyond understanding in this situation.

Update on 22/02/2026: We were provided with a store credit for the defective fridge eventually on 20/02/2026 and went in store on 21/02/2026 to purchase a new fridge (forced to go this route as it was a store credit and not a refund and therefore we could not go to another retailer). The fridge was delivered this morning (22/02) after being promised delivery would be made on the day of purchase. The apparently new fridge has defects all over, is visibly damaged all over, and has no protective film. Tafelberg Diep River is unable to issue a refund because there are no admin staff available on a weekend and the manager said he cannot guarantee a refund, which is in direct contravention to the Consumer Protection Act which states faulty products (reported within a 30 day period) are to be refunded by the supplier. What is the use of a store manager who cannot make decisions about his own store? It is now the fourth day without a fridge, no empathy or compensation for all the money lost in spoilt food, let alone the inconvenience caused by this entire incident.

Update (25/02): On 23/02, I called I called the Tafelberg head office to speak to the National Service Manager who was completely rude, abrupt and said we were threatening her which was completely false. Their calls are recorded apparently so they can listen to the call and hear that that there was no threats. She refused to assist with a refund because apparently due to the store credit being used, it was all being treated as one transaction with the Bosch fridge payout which made absolutely no sense. The purchase of the second fridge (Defy) was a completely new transaction and we used the store credit towards the total amount of the new fridge (R14000). She said that a new fridge would be ordered and delivered within two weeks, and she continued to defend Tafelberg’s ********** customer service. At 1.30pm yesterday afternoon (24/02/2026), I received an email from the Diep River branch manager stating that the fridge would only go into production on 26 February, and that “this date may change at short notice, as production timelines have proven to be somewhat unpredictable.” He went on to suggest another brand and model fridge which could be viewed and purchased at one of their other branches. His email ended with: “Please let me know if you would be happy for us to proceed with this option. We will gladly assist with a solution best suits your needs.”
I responded at 2.30pm stating that I wanted to fridge we had initially selected and which was committed to be delivered in 2 weeks time by Tafelberg and that if the deadline could not be met, I want a refund. I have not heard back from them yet.

After spending a total of R68 747.00 with Tafelberg since 2022 on a range of large and small appliances for our house, I am absolutely appalled and disappointed with this atrocious service. I have been left no choice but to go the legal route with this matter now, as a refusal to refund a defective item reported with 7 days of purchase is a direct violation of the consumer protection act. I have read the fine print of the extended warranty and there is nothing in it that states they cannot refund the payout. They have lost a loyal customer as I will never do business with them again and recommend that no one shops there. I have never received such appalling service from any retailer before and I have purchased other appliances from retailers such as Makro, Hirsch’s, Takealot and Amazon and have never had such issues with any of them previously.
