Poor Service (Attitude) at Tafelberg Furnishers Capegate.

Poor service on all levels. Upon entering the store, had to ask for service. I was referred to a sales lady, Freda. She sighed loudly and proceeded to get up from her chair. I explained that i was looking a tv unit, coffee table and couches. I was so disturbed by her attitude that i said, it is fine, I will look around and call her. A younger guy came, and helped us, as she just pointed in a general direction and left. after about 40 mins, she came looking for us. by that time, the young guy has shown us the furniture that we want and she sidles up. I at this point, can only assume that she figured we were just window shopping? I am still kind enough to tell the young man that we do have a sales lady. she asks, so are you going to take it? now we are debating about the couches. I say i do not want material couches, as this may get dirty. she says, "Well, you have to take care of your furniture! you can scotch guard it, but everything has to be taken care of. Now, these statements are true and valid, but her inflection was as if we do not know how to care for expensive couches. I refused the couches at this point, and said I know what I want and this isn't it. she sighs loudly again and proceeds to remove the couches from the sale. We then proceed to the checkout counter. I must mention that the cashier was painfully embarrassed by the sales lady's attitude and apologised to me. When presenting me the invoice, Freda sees that there is an error on the slip. It was an erroneous code. she storms off to the branch manager. As I am about to lose my cool, I walked away and stood off to the side. I hear Freda saying she already doesn't want to ask this manager anything. I am to the side , in full view and within earshot. The manager, named Nadeema, is explaining to someone, loudly, (not an employee) that she has been overseen a number of times as branch manager and that they have again appointed someone else, named Mike. When Freda came to speak to her, she said to the guy, "Do you see what I have to deal with??"

I do not know what makes me more angry, the general lack of attentiveness, much less any kind of service, to customers, or the fact that it is clearly endemic, and pervasive, with the exception of the two members of staff, the cashier and Ashraaf, the young man who attempted to assist us.

I spent R10 048,00 on the two items. I had to pay the banking costs for the sale, the reversal and the resultant sale. I was going to spend double that amount. I am incredibly disappointed in Tafelberg Furnishers Capegate, not least because I wanted to spend the little I had, at a store in my home area. However, Tafelberg Furnishers will never see me again.
