Health care complaint

This afternoon on the 16th Oct 2023 at around past 4, I went to Netcare Hospital Rosebank needing urgent care after I was hit by a car, and my left foot was injured. I got there and I was taken to Swift Care Clinic whom to my impression I thought was the hospital’s ER. I got there and told the receptionist that I am on medical aid and then he provided me with a form which I had to complete my medical aid details. I completed everything as per instruction, but I left out the part where it needed the owner of the account because my mother is the account payee. The receptionist came to me to sign that part in the consultation room and I was with Brendon answering medical questions. I then asked the receptionist “oh I also have to sign that part?” he rep**** yes, referring to the “account owner” part. I continued with Brandon, then Dr Vosloo came in soon after Brandon was done. She examined me and suggested that I do an X-ray scan to check the length of the damage on my foot. I was taken there by a wheelchair because I couldn’t set my injured foot down, it was too painful. I got to the x-ray department and completed and signed another form that required my medical aid details, after completing the form I did the x-ray scans then I was taken to the consultation rooms. While waiting in one of the rooms, Nurse Chido asked me if I am to walk on my own and I rep**** no to her. Brandon came in to ask if I was given the scans and I said no. The nurse came back with crutches, I said to her “let me see if I can try to walk on my own first” and I was able to set my foot down although I felt pain. I asked her to return them and the doctor walked and saw that I returned them and she said it’s okay if I don’t want them. She told me that I don’t have bone damage but the soft tissue is injured and it will take some time for it to heal. She gave me a pain prescription and a sick note for work and told me that I can go to any pharmacy. I asked if the one in the hospital is still opened, and she said judging by the time it was probably closed – she would however give me two pain killer pills to keep me through the night, she suggested that I get my foot rested tomorrow. I thanked her and told her that I was glad nothing was broken and she shared the same sentiments. Minutes later while I was getting ready to leave, Brendon came with a speed point machine and said that I have a bill to settle. To my surprise, I thought everything was going to be charged to my medical aid, hence I completed and signed the medical aid form. Brendon responded rudely telling me that I signed a form that said I have to pay cash and the receptionist told me about the policy, he heard him telling me. I explained to him that the receptionist said cash, and I told him that I have medical aid – and he gave me a medical aid form. So how is this cash now? He said no, it is strictly cash. I am wasting their time. The practice closed at 5. I must make the payment. Not wanting to fight or argue, I tried to make a few phone calls to put the money together, all were unsuccessful. I told him I don’t have cash; can I make a payment arrangement. He said no, raising his voice at me, saying it is strictly cash and the doctor is not contracted with the hospital so no medical aid is taken. I begged him, and he was rude to me, he did not care that I was in pain or not, he did not care that the proper procedure was not followed, he simply told me that the practice was closed, he will not wait for me; it is none of his concern that I do not have the money at the moment. He just wants the payment, the practice does not do payment plans – I must leave something valuable, he said this having seen that I was holding an Apple iPhone. Being desperate, without a plan to get home, I left my cellphone behind. This is nowhere being fair. This is harassment to me as a patient, had the practice explained that they don’t take medical aid from the beginning – I would have gone elsewhere to seek for assistance. But once you give a patient a medical aid form, they are within their rights to think that the practice does accept medical aid as a form of payment. Otherwise, why would they give me the form to complete twice? I was taken advantage off. Simple as that. I need your assistance, I am sitting here, without a phone. I was bul**** by Brendan, and not given the chance to make payment arrangements.
