What a disappointment and a gross one at that...

Sweetwell was one of those gems tucked between wine farms where you could enjoy hearty meals complemented by a great wine list. Unfortunately that has changed. The wine list has been reduced to a few producers, ignoring the wines of the surrounding farms. Surely that would make for a great list to include the best wines of the Helderberg region? The food disappointed in the sense that the lush meals are now just huge portions of average quality. (The chef has a love affair with mascarpone which surfaces in strange places like the Eisbein...) What made me decide to never ever go back with either friends or business partners was the fact that the geriatric Jack Russel dog vomited quite severely in the middle of the restaurant, continued to eat its own vomit and neither the staff nor the chef cleaned it up or apologised! In fact, they thought it quite amusing. (I wonder what a health inspector would think...) With so many great restaurants in that area, it would be a shame to waste a meal at Sweetwell. Sadly so.
