Sustainable.co.za : Probe Backup Power System

I am writing this in the hope that I can save someone else the frustration that I had, never mind the money that went down the drain, in trying to purchase a Probe Backup Power System from Sustainable.co.za. I purchased a unit that comes with 4 batteries which makes it very heavy. The purchasing process and payment were no problem and delivery took about a week which is not too bad, although it cost me over a thousand bucks in delivery fees. That's where the fun stopped. It were delivered with only bubble wrap as protection which does not help at all. The unit is supposed to be either crated or delivered disassembled because of the weight. On inspection all four castor wheels were collapsed simply because of the thin steel used in the manufacturing of the battery box. The way in which is was bubble wrapped and the position of the numerous scratches on the surfaces of both the battery box and inverter proved that not all of it happened during transport and it were present before it were bubble wrapped. My impression is that this damaged unit is being passed from one Customer to the next in the hope that someone would simply accept it without complaining. The batteries have obviously moved during transport and it made a nice dent to one side of the battery box. There is no way you can reach the batteries without disconnecting the cables from the inverter which didn't seem like a simple task, to me at least. They could not even bother to install rubber grommets in the holes where the cables come through the battery box. The photos shown on the web page doesn't mean anything and the only identification on this unit is a small bar coded sticker at the back of inverter. Apart from this sticker you could not even be sure of the rating of the inverter. I could not see much of the batteries but it certainly did not have the probe logo on it as shown on the web page. On return of the unit they wanted to swap it out but I insisted on a refund as I had no faith in receiving another unit in any better condition. It took a while to be refunded and they deducted the transport fees which I did not even query as I were too relieved in getting most of my money back as I visualized having to fight for months to get it refunded. So on conclusion, I cannot vouch for any of their other products but I would certainly not recommend any of the Probe Systems for obvious reasons.
