Don't do business with them.

I got a call from SureStrat today trying to sell me insurance and a tracking device. I asked them how they got my number as I have not given them consent to directly market to me. The answer I got was they looked into the National Consumer Database for my details. Firstly this is ******* and does not exist anymore. Secondly, this is not direct consent provided to SureStrat as required by the POPI Act. I was spun some story to try keep me quite with them throwing out National Consmumer Database etc. Doesn't work.

I then tried to go through to the Compliance / Complaints team and was told that all of management was in a meeting - this is a standard "hide from the situation" answer. The person who answered the call then tried to tell me that everyone needs to make a living and they were doing nothing wrong and I must give them a chance even through they have breached the POPI Act. I then asked him if this is how he would speak to a policeman if he was given a ticket of which he then responded to tell me that we live in a colorful country where we can negotiate with police. Very disturbing answers from this company's representatives.

Perhaps some learning for SureStrat, POPI came into law and effective from 1 July 2021. Perhaps try to abide by it or risk getting fined by the Regulators.

I will wait 2 working days for proof that I gave SureStrat consent to market to me directly. If nothing is provided, I will notify the regulators

Everyone, beware of businesses like this that do not follow the law and regulations. If this is how the relationship starts, it can only get worse from there I guess.
