Sunrise Cottage, Mazeppa Bay: Dissatisfaction

I need to express my strong dissatisfaction with Sunrise Cottage which we unfortunately chose to spend our last few days of our Wild Coast tour. We are frequent travellers to the Wild Coast and have been (mis)led by Weg! Magazine which referred to Sunrise Cottage in January 2017 (#147) issue. We also did our own research before deciding where to stay and their website is beautifully presented with wonderful photos and although there are no reviews on the website we still made our final choice and decision to book at Sunrise Cottage.

When we checked in we found out that the place was not cleaned at all. The cottage itself was really very dirty and seemed to have been perhaps unused for quite some time. We had no top bed sheets and some of the bottom sheets were creased as if not been washed. The table cloths were not only tatty but also had old oily marks on it. To make matters worse, there was spider webs in the kitchen, many dead insects and flies on all the window sills and visible dirt on the floor.

The overall impression was nothing like the idyllic pictures advertised on the website. I do not consider myself a fussy person, but the filth that we encountered was disgusting.

I would be very surprised if Johnny and Trish (the owners) have not been aware or contacted in regards to these conditions in the past by other travellers. Surely, I am not the only frequent travel guest that they have heard complaints from, about the conditions of the cottage. The only review I could trace speak to the same matters as we experienced.

The cottage was not at all what we booked and had we have known the state of the cottage we would have never chosen to stay at your cottage. The standard of this place is so low, that we decided to leave and then stayed in the nearby Mazeppa Bay Hotel. Do not waste your time and money. It does not even deserve one star. If there was an option on hellopeter to rate a place negatively, I would have done it.
