what is a warranty ?

Bought an expensive (R3200) pair of sunglasess last March that were apparently hand crafted in Italy using the finest materials and covered under a 2 year warranty.

Noticed a few cracks on the bridge which in my opinion is as a result of the design of the glasses. Took it to their service centre in Black river and ended up having a debate about whether it was actually cracks. They claimed not to see any cracks at all. I got a fellow customer in the queue to look at it and he agreed that it was actually cracked and not a design as the lady behind the counter was trying to convince .

I asked that they send it to their technician anyway for futher inspection that they begrudgingly took I knew that she would come back to say sorry this is not covered

Anyway a few days later she calls me and says its, as expected, not covered under the warranty without any explanation as to why. I then voiced my discontent and took to twitter to complain and make their underhandedness public as well as post pictures of the cracks they could at first not see.

They then took another 24 hours to tell me what they initially said that the glasses are not covered under the warranty and that they are offering me R500 on my next purchase

As if I will EVER buy from them again

Stay far away from these guys - they quick to sell a pair of glasses but if you unlucky to have to deal with the after sales team you in for a circus and pretty ********* business

Good day Zaheeer,

Thank you for contacting us.

As per our telephonic conversation, we advised that the top of the bridge was not cracks but the design of your Persol. The bottom of your bridge are cracks. We advised that we would escalate it to a Luxottica technician to assess further. Luxottica has too declined your warranty claim which we have previously communicated to you. After our call earlier today I ascertained you where still not happy with the warranty decline and wanted further information, I then requested that a Luxottica team leader contact you to discuss the matter further.

We as Sunglass hut has not offered you R500 off your purchase but 50% off your purchase as we do with all Sunglass hut customers that have their sunglasses under a 1 year period and which are still in possession of their Sunglass hut receipt.

I will continuously follow up with Luxottica on your matter but I assure you they will contact you.

Thank you

Ivena Bantam

Sorry I have spent enough time and energy on this and want this resolved

I am currently in contact with the offices of the consumer protector. Quite a bit of admin but I prefer to see what my other options are rather than your 50% to allow me to buy another pair of sunglasses
