Sunbeam appliance horror, **** guarentee

Bought a Kettle in November 2019, then first December 2020 which 13 months later the Kettle light flashes and Kettle stops working. Phoned NuWorld and they said go back to Retailer. Went to retail store and they advised it's past the 12 month Guarantee. So why does Sunbeam only provide a 12 month guarantee for a R450 Kettle?? Is it on purpose that their kettles break on month 13. I also emailed head office and no reply for two weeks now
