Sun City's Valley of the Waves...what an experience

I planned a surprise birthday mini vacation for my husband this past long weekend...we were all looking forward to a great break away and celebration!

However to our utter dismay, we experienced such a horrific encounter at the Valley of the Waves:

On Monday, 8th August 2016, my husband and I along with our two young kids decided to spent the day at the Valley of the Waves. We decided to go on the lazy river. Approaching the first bridge, we noticed two boys standing on the bridge laughing their guts out as well as a boy that was also in the water behind us.

I couldn’t understand what they were laughing at while, looking at us…up until we approached the 2nd bridge where they were conveniently waiting for us once again, did I notice that the boys were in actual fact spitting at us. At this point I shouted at them to stop with this barbaric behaviour.

Not only did they spit at us, but they also spat at 4 Chinese boys that were behind us.

I can’t remember exactly whether there’s 3 or 4 bridges overlooking the lazy river, but at every single bridge the boys awaited our arrival…to clean their throats out on us.

Never in my life have I been humiliated like this by mere 13 year old boys. Before the end where the lazy river trip ends, the one boy who was behind us jumped off his tube and decided to throw his double tube on top of us and splatter us with water while laughing uncontrollably…this boy got out and then joined the other two ‘Spitting Kings’ and sped off.

We tried to find them, but to no avail. About two hours later, they walked right passed us without realising it. It was then that I told my husband that we need to get them and take them to security.

I managed to grab the one boy by his arm, but the other 2 escaped.

The security tried to get information out of this boy, but all of a sudden he didn’t know which hotel he was staying at, however told us that the room numbers were 108, 109 and 110 or 245. He also told us that he was not there with his parents but rather that he was there with his friend and the friends’ parents. He told us they are living in Pretoria and the other two boys’ surnames are Aust and Van Der Wye. The Security used the surnames to check on the guest list, but could not find anyone with that surname. The Security promised to find out at which hotel these boys were staying at and would contact their parents and give us feedback afterwards. I left all my details with the security… I am still waiting for that call.

I personally think that this matter should’ve been taken up more seriously and should not have just been swept under the carpet for whatever reason.

The humiliation is unexplainable, but what saddens me most is why 3 young white boys would find it fitting and pleasurable to spit at a coloured family (which is us) and at the 3 Chinese boys.

It’s almost impossible not to link such barbaric behaviour to outright **************/******. This incident shattered me to my core and I couldn’t help but be reminded of the Bloemfontein University students’ disgraceful video that was on the news a couple of years ago. An incident that shocked the entire nation as we’re living in a democratic South Africa for the last 22 years and yet things like this still happen.

Sun City should take serious action against such as this type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and against a person’s basic human rights.

Our basic human right ‘To be treated with respect and dignity’ were totally disregarded and invaded by mere 13 year old boys.
