Poor conservation

I am writing today to complain of the lack of follow-through in March 2022, when raising the issue of a Hadeda bird, at the Sun City Soho swimming pool, that had its foot tangled in fishing line.

I was referred to Douglas Mosweu from Sun City Resort Security, who then referred me to Top Turf.

Apparently Top Turf is contracted by Sun City to looks after the Landscaping as well as the wildlife at the Resort. Once I got hold of Marinell Munro at Top Turf who then referred me to her manager, Francois du Toit, both who confirmed that they were aware of the bird in distress. The feedback from both was that they had previously failed to catch the bird.

After repeated phone calls to all the above, many calls which went unanswered, finally the feedback received, is that the bird has no longer been spotted at the Soho swimming pool, or any of the surrounding pools. The suggestion was that perhaps the bird had migrated. These birds are non-migratory and has more than likely found it too difficult to scavenge for food and has perished.

I find it most disappointing that after repeated calls and WhatsApp messages, that none of the above entities, were able to escalate for assistance, a Hadeda bird with its foot tangled in fishing line.
