Summit Financial Services are *********.

During the year of 2017, I contacted Summit Financial Services regarding advice on my debt repayments. I was then requested by the consultant to give a breakdown of my current income and expenditure. During this process the consultant was very persistent with numerous calls. I did give a breakdown as required and was assured by the consultant that the information was only for assessment purposes. The consultant then sent me a bundle of forms to fill in, off which I did as she continuously promised me that this would NOT place me under debt review or debt counseling. I did mention to her on numerous occasions that I did not want to be placed under debt review or debt counselling and that this was merely for my informative purposes. She had then asked me to fill in a form of which the company is now saying that I gave permission to be under debt counseling, when the consultant told me that this was only to see if my creditors would accept the proposal. She then said that once this was done then I would sign the contract after which legal and admin fees would be deducted and following that the agreed amount would be distributed. Under no circumstances did I tell the consultant to place me under debt counseling. I only found out that I was under debt counseling this weekend a year and half later when I tried to close an account. I then continued to contact the company of which there was no empathy and was told to get an attorney or pay my debt off. I was wrongfully advised by the consultant and now I have to endure more stress and expenses of which will not be tolerated. Had I been effectively informed I would have never entertained this company for another second due to the consultant not been fit and proper to perform her duties. This is effecting my employment and life. There were no payments made to Summit and neither did they deduct anything. Now every financial institution has me listed under debt counseling. This matter has been referred to the Debt Counselors Association of SA and the Ombudsman.
