Studio 88 just *****s your money
in December 2019, I placed a pair of sneakers in laybye at studio 88 in vangate mall.l was not informed about the companies policies relating to laybyes by the sales assistant who claimed to be the manager of the store. They same guy forced me to pay a 30% deposit because apparently their system doesn’t allow the customer to pay anything less than 30% which I know is a lie because every other store I’ve laybyed things at only have a 10% deposit. So anyway I had to pay over R500 in deposit and I was informed today when I went to try and either collect the laybye or cancel it that it was off their system and I won’t be able to get my money back. I was not informed of this the day I came to put the item in laybye initially . Due to the outbreak of covid and the subsequent lockdown, I was unable to collect my laybye in the month I was supposed to however I would expect to still be able to collect it now as it wasn’t my fault I couldn’t leave my house, also most other retail stores keep the laybye on their system for 6 months and they call to inform the customer that their laybye has expired and that they need to collect their deposit in store as soon as they can. None of this happened. I expect that the matter be dealt with as soon as possible as I refuse to be at a loss of over R500 due to their employees. If not I will be taking the matter further.
Thank you for contacting us. Our store Lay-Bye policy is 30% deposit and the lay-bye period is 3 months, unfortunately we do not offer 10% deposit for lay-bye, this is a standard policy in our company and our staff cannot change this. In regards to your lay-bye, it was made in December 2019, so it would have expired by now, hence not showing on the system anymore. Our staff would then request Head Office to return the expired lay-bye to their system once contacted by you in order for them to give you a full refund on your lay-bye of R500. This is the standard process for expired lay-byes, we would require your receipt as proof of your lay-bye. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, we also extended all lay-byes by an additional month, so instead of 3 months, we offered 4.
We apologize for the confusion and frustration caused, and we will be in contact with you shortly to assist with your refund.
