Think twice before buying from Stuart and Lloyd or Salsub

I bought a Salsub submersible borehole motor from Stuart and Lloyd in Nelspruit. Last week the unit stopped working so I had to pull it up. Once on the surface, I found that the motor was no longer attached to the pump, although the nuts were still firmly affixed to it. The stainless steel casing had come off where the *****s held it. Some of the *****s, and a bit of the stainless steel, were still attached.

I took it in to Stuart and Lloyd in Nelspruit who said they would check with the motor manufacturer, Salsub.

Surprise, surprise, they said it was not a warranty claim and that the motor had exploded due to a surge!! This from seeing pictures of the wires.

So what these people would like me to believe is that the pump had a surge of power, from "something", that did not damage the wires going 80 metres down the borehole, or the electronic control board, through which the power to the motor was supp****! No, instead I am supposed to believe that there was so much power that the oil in the motor overheated and caused an explosion in the motor, but it happened at the motor, nowhere else.

The person I spoke to was keen to make it clear that it may not have been lightning. If not, how else does the motor get a power surge that does not affect the wires or board. I must assume that the excessive power was there for some time, if their claim that the oil overheated and caused the explosion, but this prolonged excessive power did not affect the wires or PCB!!!

If it was lightning that cause the motor to blow, again, without damaging the wires or PCB, it traveled 80 metres down a metal sleeve, with about 50 metres of water, and then focused all of its power just on the motor, not affecting any of the other boreholes' electronics, although they are only 50 metres away, or the electronics in the house, that is also within 50 metres.

If it was an Eskom related power surge, since that is the only other source of power in the area, it also managed to focus on just that motor, nothing else in the vicinity.

The report I requested on why they refuted the warranty claim is like their warranty, nowhere to be seen.

I would think twice before buying anything from Stuart and Lloyd or Salsub. Their warranties mean nothing.
