No or very small gap covered, not worth it
We took out a hospital plan and gap cover about 2 years ago so that in the case that we should fall pregnant, we will have ease of mind when it comes to paying bills. We relocated to a more rural area about a year ago and the accessibility to private hospitals are very limited. We fell pregnant a few months ago and after our first midwife visit (as private hospitals are located far from us), learned that Stratum doesn’t cover anything for the visit as midwifes are considered an Al**** service. Even though our hospital plan did cover a part of the visit, Stratum did not cover any amount at all.
We then went to a gynecologist as they are considered as specialists with the hope that Stratum will cover the gap. The hospital plan covered a large part of the visit and Stratum only covered R220,55 which still leaves us with the remaining R400 to pay. I will therefore not recommend Stratum as a gap cover as I feel that if we had saved our monthly installments instead, we would have been able to cover the gaps more adequately.
