Misled
Good Day
I took the African Unity Health Insurance in 2017. It stated unlimited GP benefits. At the beginning of this year, members were informed that after the 10th consult, authorisation must be obtained to visit the GP. Recently, I had to request the doctors to complete & submit forms related to asthma & back problems. Currently, I am being declined authorization for asthma consultation as Unity Health wants me to visit a specialist. This wasn't what I signed up for. It's my choice if I want to see a specialist or not. I was even told to go to a provisional hospital to see a specialist. That is a nightmare!! So now if I don't have the funds to consult with a private specialist, I must go to a government hospital ??? The reason why I took the cover is to avoid going to a provisional hospital considering the state of the facilities at the provisional hospital. Furthermore, I would have to go to the hospital within my area that I live in & that would be Thembisa Hospital !!!!!
I feel that I have been misled when I took this cover.
Stratum Health is a reputable medical insurer but African Unity Health seems to be lowering the standards of Stratum.
