Absolutely Disgusted
What an awesome "gap cover", my wife and I recently moved across the Bestmed, knowing that they only cover 100% of the medical aid rates, so our so called "Broker" sold us Stratum Gap cover, who we were assured would cover any difference. So fast forward, recently discovered my wife was pregnant.
Gynae charged R2600 for first consultation and Ultrasound to check everything is ok. On call to Stratum they told me they cover up to R1300 for 4 gynae appointments per year, Bestmed covered R750 of the appointment as per their 100%, so cool right?! Claim from Stratum.... Nope, they are only covering R750 just like best med, their excuse? An Ultrasound is not necessary and is ancillary to pregnancy. DISGUSTED! Don't kid yourselves people, stay the hell away from Stratum

So long as the co payments and deductibles are paid from your medical savings account or pocket"
And this is directly from the Elite500 brochure, but no, an Ultrasound during a pregnancy check, especially the first one when you only have a home pregnancy test to confirm pregnancy, is "ancillary". This is call False advertising Stratum and I am sure the Ombudsman will have something to say about this.
