Stone & Al****
I live across the road from a mine dump in Welkom where this company is busy working breaking up rocks to use for building material. Their activities happen only during the night and their work results in clouds of dust being thrown up into the air that wafts across the road and into our homes and our lungs. Their staff work with face masks and protective gear because of the dangers of this dust. I contacted our local newspapers, twice, (The Vista) and no one bothered to respond. I spoke to an attorney who told me that we could take them to court and we would probably win round one of this action but nothing else as this company has more money than we do. The mines are responsible for a host of diseases because of their underground operations and now, in their lust for more money, they have brought their activities to the surface. I am tired of this nonsense. I have spoken to my neighbours and they are experiencing similar things as what I am, obviously, but everyone claims that there is nothing that they can do. Nothing can be done because, unlike the United States and other civilized countries in the world, our legal system operates on the principle of no pay no play. No one cares. As long as they are getting their money, then they might care but they get paid - win or lose.
