Stompies Wood
Based on recent customer reviews, Stompies Wood is consistently praised for high quality, dry braai and bluegum wood that burns well and keeps coals warm for long. Customers writing in both English and Afrikaans highlight friendly staff, organised deliveries right into the yard and wood packed neatly on arrival, with Tiaan repeatedly thanked by name. The main criticism centres on value for money, where one buyer felt the bulk bag sizing was misleadingly advertised, priced far above rival suppliers, stacking was not offered upfront and a pricing query went unanswered.

I was surprised by how little firewood I received in yesterday's delivery. The quality of the bluegum wood is good and dry, but it works out to be around four times more expensive than my previous supplier, Cape Town Firewood, who supp**** me with approximately 1,000 pieces of dry bluegum for R2,000. By comparison, Stompies sells fewer than 200 pieces for R1,400. (I purchased a 'special' that included five small bags of kindling, and firestarters, plus an added delivery cost - R2,648.00). There was no offer to stack the wood; on arrival, they just started dumping the bags, and I had to ask for them to stack. The previous company's delivery price was almost half, and the team offered to stack. I found their advertising misleading. The website describes the product as "bulk bags (≈ 3 small bags)." While they do state that each bag weighs 15 kg, if you're not fami**** with how that translates into volume, it's easy to assume you're getting a much larger bag. In reality, these "bulk" bags are much the same size as the standard firewood bags sold at most Engen garages or Spar stores. So, please know that 15 kg, based on my delivery, translates to bags containing roughly 16 pieces of wood, making the cost several times higher than what I've paid elsewhere. I contacted Stompies yesterday to ask why their prices are so much higher than other suppliers. My message was read but went unanswered. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend Stompies. You will receive 1/4 of the amount of wood that most other companies provide. I won't be purchasing from them again unless their pricing becomes fair.
