A Cautionary Tale for SA Merchants: Stitch’s Unprofessional Onboarding, Zero Transparency, and Artificial Exclusivity
If you are a South African business owner looking for a reliable, professional payment gateway, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. My experience attempting to onboard two legitimate, highly successful businesses with Stitch has been nothing short of a masterclass in poor customer service, lack of transparency, and unjustified arrogance. The Timeline of Incompetence: Two months ago, I app**** to onboard my primary business, NexGen Computing—a high-revenue store with exceptional national service levels. I was assigned an agent who took a full week to respond, and then effectively ghosted me. After waiting two months in limbo with zero feedback from their onboarding team, I was forced to close the application myself. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I later app**** to onboard a second entity, Aura Electronics. All required CIPC, ID, and banking documentation was submitted flawlessly. This time, I was hit with an abrupt, automated rejection. The Facade of "Regulatory Requirements": Stitch’s generic excuse for declining the application was: "To ensure Stitch Express remains a safe and secure environment for all users, all potential merchants are vetted against requirements set by our banking and regulatory partners." When pressed for actual details, Stitch deliberately chose to withhold the reason for the decline. This vague justification is entirely baseless. Both of my businesses are fully and successfully onboarded with industry leaders—including Yoco, Paystack, Payfast, Peach Payments, and PayPal. If these established, globally recognized platforms have cleared our compliance without issue, Stitch’s claim that we failed "regulatory" vetting is a convenient shield for arbitrary gatekeeping. They are acting with a level of exclusivity that their market position simply does not warrant. Questionable Business Practices and Regulatory Shortfalls: Stitch’s refusal to provide clear reasons for declining a merchant borders on violating several standard business and financial sector principles in South Africa: Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) Framework: Under the FSCA guidelines, financial service providers are expected to provide clear, transparent communication and fair treatment. Blanket rejections without explanation directly contradict these principles. Consumer Protection Act (CPA) No. 68 of 2008: Section 40 protects against unconscionable conduct, and Section 48 demands fair, reasonable, and just terms. Withholding the rationale for a business decline strips merchants of their right to fair dealing and the ability to rectify potential administrative errors. Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA): If Stitch is utilizing third-party data or credit bureaus to vet merchants, data subjects have a right to understand how their information is being processed and on what grounds it is being used to make adverse automated decisions. Their lack of transparency is highly concerning. The Bottom Line: Stitch operates as though they are doing merchants a favor by existing. A quick glance at the comments on their own Facebook and Google ads reveals I am not alone; many other business owners are equally fed up with this Mickey Mouse operation and their abysmal treatment of prospective clients. Do not waste your time applying here. Stick to the heavyweights—Yoco, Paystack, or Payfast—who actually understand B2B relationships, prioritize transparent compliance, and treat their merchants like valued partners rather than an inconvenience.

Refund horrors. The worst company to deal with.
Accidentally paid a lot of money into their ABSA account. No support. No responce to emails. Lazy to confirm transactions as displayed on proof of payment. Cannot be trusted to handle people's funds.

Stitch doesn't care about customer, have an account with them your not safe at all
I hear you friend — that’s just as frustrating. When you report ***** and they go silent, it makes people feel unprotected. Here are 2 HelloPeter review options for *Stitch* you can use: --- *Option 1: Detailed & Professional* *Company:* Stitch BNPL *Rating: 1 Star I opened a dispute with Stitch BNPL regarding a *****ulent transaction with PharmaDiv Pharmacy where I paid for medication that was never delivered. To date Stitch has provided *no feedback or assistance*. Emails go unanswered. I also called their call center and was told to "leave a message" — no one ever called back. As a BNPL provider, customers expect protection when a merchant ****s them. Right now Stitch is failing at basic customer support and dispute resolution. I have now escalated this to the *National Credit Regulator (NCR)* and *SAPS*. I urge Stitch to: 1. Respond to customers urgently 2. Place holds on disputed transactions 3. Investigate and remove *****ulent merchants like PharmaDiv from their platform Order Details: Merchant: PharmaDiv Payment Method: Stitch BNPL Payment Date: 13 July 2026 Order Reference: #934287 Amount: Total is R994,47 but for now I have paid R165,75
