What happened to a 2 year warranty??

I was sceptical at first to purchase a Ryobi product and after purchasing my first staple gun I believed that I was getting quality and value for money.

When starting my own business and having to purchase a few power tools the first and only brand I wanted to purchase was a Ryobi Impact Industrial Hammer drill as well as a 18V Battery Drill also the impact drill.

Sadly the Ryobi Impact Industrial Hammer drill lasted just under a year and then stopped working I took it to Makro StrubensValley and had to wait 3 weeks which was fine even though I require it for my business. When the drill arrived back it was full of grease coming out the chuck and lasted 4 weeks, I sent it in for a second time to Makro StrubensValley and this time it came back in even a worse condition with the grease literally dirtying all the items around the drill with grease.

The drill then worked for just over a month and stopped again thus the third time in 4 months having to go back. Being an Electrical Contractor working in domestic houses so the machine really doesn’t work very hard but yet it has broken 3 times in less than 18 months. I insisted in getting a new drill set as this is having an impact on my business and the fact that it has gone in for repairs 3 times in last 4 months and still under warranty I feel it should be replaced, well the next shock was when the staff at Makro StrubensValley called me this week to inform me that the cost to repair the drilling machine is roughly R1800.00 which is almost the price of a new one as well as I had to purchase another Ryobi Impact Industrial Hammer drill to complete my work. Shame on you Ryobi and Makro Strubensvalley as the parts that must be replaced has not even been specified as abuse or malicious damage but rather wear and tear which should form part of a warranty surely a impact drill should not damage bearings in less than a year.

That’s not where the problem ends I was also informed that the Ryobi Impact Battery drill batteries and charger is faulty, they informed us that I must pay for the repairs to the drilling machine and they will then as a goodwill replace the Batteries and charger.

I paid for the repairs however did not receive 2 new batteries or a charger as promised by Ryobi, now that I paid for repairs Ryobi doesn’t want to honour what they said they were going to do and I have to make good whatever I have to ensure work is completed with the old Equipment.

I will therefore think twice before I purchase or promote Ryobi or Makro to colleagues as they don’t honour their warranty of 2 years
