Ryobi guarantee is worthless

Bought Ryobi petrol chainsaw from Makro Vaal mid Sept 2014. Primer button housing broke on first press (flimsy plastic clips). Battled to get motor started then it wouldn't idle - engine cut when throttle released. Managed to do a few cuts for small project then chain drive failed. Returned saw to Makro in November (would have been sooner but store is far from our home). Makro sent it to Ryobi agent who quoted about R300 for repairs \due to wear and tear"! What wear and tear? It was used for only a few cuts (100mm gum poles and a few wood steps less than 5cm thick! Makro staff member said she hates Ryobi as you can never get hold of management. She had to search through a pile of repair slips for Ryobi to find mine (not a good sign!). My husband phoned Stephens & Co and was promised a call back (I think from Eric) but that was two weeks ago and we're still waiting. The box clearly states there is a two year guarantee but that means nothing. The valuable wood for my pre-Christmas project is a rotting eyesore in my garden"
