Atrocious service

I've always heard horror stories of Steve Biko hospital, but nothing could prepare us for this experience. My uncle was diagnosed with a blot clot in his leg very early Friday morning and immediately rushed to Steve Biko. After being sent to a few different departments and waiting for hours the dr's confirmed the blood clot and noted that he will need to get surgery asap as waiting too long can results in a possible amputation- at this stage every minute counted. They also mentioned that there's a 6 hour window in which treatment should be started which was just missed, however there might still be hope if acting quickly. He only got transferred to a bed in casualties the same night at 11pm and passed out on the floor a few times because of the pain, no one even tried to help or checked in to see if he was okay, just stared at him. He has extremely serious diabetes and for a whole 24 hours he was never administered insulin or given food after they promised to give him something when his family were chased away. They never gave him his insulin or food until the next morning when they noticed he was already in a coma. Every time he had to go to the bathroom he had to wait 1-2 hours for assistance. They couldn't proceed with the surgery as there were no beds in the ward he was supposed to be in and they weren't phased at all. Not once they treated the condition as an emergency even after confirming treatment will need to be started within 6 hours. They were rude and constantly on their phones when we tried to get answers. We were ignored constantly and until today they never put in the effort of giving details. He only proceeded with surgery at 2am Sunday morning and lost his leg due to waiting this long. While I understand the shortage of beds and the process, surely a plan could've been made to treat this as a matter of urgency??? The amputation is definitely something that could've been avoided if the matter was treated with a bit more urgency and I fear to think how they handle cases where urgent treatment is a matter of life and death.
