Waiting not for Godot but for Stephan Welz
Unhappily I must concur with the many reviewers' complaints about slow or no payments. In the 21 February 2024 Cape Town auction I sold a Dylan Lewis bronze sculpture for R120000, with a net amount due to me of R105600 after commission. To date, 78 days after auction, I have not been paid. My frequent enquiries to staff in both Cape Town and Johannesburg have simply met with a lot of ducking, diving and buck-passing, and the person I am told is the owner of the business, Lawrence Friedman, does not answer his cell phone ***).

Your comments are fair and grounded , and we apologise for not communicating with you sooner .
As discussed telephonically earlier we can only achieve our 80% sell through rate by offering buyers extra time to pay on occasion when it is requested .

In the event the buyer does not come forward with the balance due we will underwrite to pay the full amount due before the end of this month.

28 Aug 2024, 20:0628 August 2024 and still no payment, 6 months since the auction and nearly 5 months since I should have been paid. The late Stephan Welz would turn in his grave at what the auction house bearing his name has become. Caveat emptor is the usual caution in buying and selling deals, but in the case of this business it is caveat vendor.
