inhumane people who call themselves cape town preferred property professionals since 1879 when they are far from being professional and acting established since colonialism.
My experience has been a jaw-drop. I have read all reviews about steer & co before I go ahead to contact them with regard to the advertised apartment (9 Chermer Court - Churchill Estate). I have shown interest through the property24 website on the mentioned apartment. I received communication from Chantal Petersen to arrange a viewing with Mr. Clinton who was very polite, patient, and most importantly, very professional, as he was very accommodating and responsive toward all our questions during the viewing. My wife and I were very impressed with his attitude and passion for the profession and he is the reason to put in a rental application after the assurance we received regarding the apartment, complex, and area at large. The viewing was conducted on the 24th of January 2023. The application was submitted on the 25th of January 2023 with the R200 credit check fee payment. Then after that, the show started, Chantal Petersen is very unprofessional and had back chatter. No email has been responded to from her side. My application was only reviewed on the 30th of January although the application is for the 1st of February. I had to call the office and call her office line on a regular basis to make sure that she is doing her job like she is having another job or working for free. We were accepted in several other applications, and we had to let go, excepting positivity sense because the asked rental is half the current rent which it was very clear we could qualify and there were no specific criteria set on the application to detail what a qualified or successful tenant shall be. Then, Chantal goes on by calling my current landlord and he also informed me that, agent with the name Chantal she called to confirm your lease agreement and she is very rude and unprofessional on the way she conducted herself (what I heard from the Landlord not what I said), then again Chantal sending me an email to explain that the number provided to confirm our scholarships is not responding and she has sent an email awaiting a response. I called the scholarship office and they did answer me on the first call and advised that maybe because of load shedding the lines are not working properly and she must call after 12 pm. I conveyed the message to Chantal and then she got to speak to the scholarship officer and he also informed me that, Chantal was very unprofessional, impatient, and rude also. All these red flags were enough for me to not continue with the application but then I remembered our need for accommodation, getting settled and what we are going through where we currently staying, then, I just bite my tongue, feelings, and everything, and just allow the process to take place. We are in the middle of another meeting, Chantal sends an email requesting payment of R200 for the credit check fee for my wife since she is also applying with me in the apartment since am not going to be the only one responsible for rent alone, also she requested surety application to be submitted. Knowing her conduct and behavior including but not limited to how delayed and unresponsive she is, I had to stop my meeting and go to my wife's workplace and give her the application to sign and submit immediately then pay and give her the proof of payment. with all the rushing, have not even sweated like this at my grandpa's funeral but yet still awaiting feedback from Chantal. All this is happening past the 1st of February which is the due date to move in for occupation. I sent several emails and several calls no response. Then, on Friday, during lunchtime, I was out of patience, then I called the direct number for the receptionist to speak to Chantal, then she advised I call after lunch, then, I called after lunch, speaking to Chantal about the situation and how frustrated we are that we have not received any feedback for an application that we submitted long ago and we have attended to all her requested information. Now, Chantal in a very cold manner responded, I received feedback from my portfolio manager (Sandi Nel) yesterday, haven't I shared it with you yet, let me send it to you. Then, I ask, what the outcome/feedback was received, and she rep**** its declined, with the employment contract, and affordability noted. Then, I am shocked of course, then I ask her, can you please explain to me what that means, then, she answered, I don’t know you need to speak to her, then, I ask, can you give me a contact number, then, she rep****, no I cannot give you her personal number only her office number, although I did not ask for her personal number, then she gives me the office in order to transfer me to speak to the portfolio manager Sandi Nel. Sandi Nel is the same as Chantal, unprofessional, cold, rude, and also does not know all information she just wants to assert herself as righteous, extending no willingness to understand my queries. I speak to Sandi and ask her could you please explain to me what is the reason for my application being declined. then she gives me the reason which is contact employment and affordability. then, I ask, can you please be specific and elaborate further on these reasons? Then she says, we went through your bank statement and it does not reflect the same salary each month, we spoke to the landlord and the landlord criteria is very specific, first, permanent work, and salary must be steady for each and every month. Now, I ask her, I was very specific and I explained our situation in the first email why Chantal did not discontinue our application when she reviewed our application and supporting documents. there was no need to go through the process if we don’t qualify based on already fixed landlord criteria. why have those criteria have never been stated or made clear on the application from the start of the application to avoid frustration, miscommunication, and further expectation. This I found as deceptive because they did not disclose the criteria information from the landlord which should have been stated from the start. Now, Sandi is going on about defending the landlord and that she has had bad experiences in the past with contract employment, and it's very risky to give rent to someone who does not have a permanent job if I have a permanent job I would still go for rental instead of buying. Now, I offer Sandi, if possible could you speak to the landlord and we can establish three months in advance plus the two monthly deposit in order to show a good reputation. Although, we pay R14000 per month where we currently staying compare to R6950 per month for the apartment. Then, Sandi goes on by saying and then what happened after the three months then I offer to pay 6 months in advance, then I offer to pay a 1 year upfront, still not accepting. Just worried about what will happen after the year upfront although the lease agreement is for 12 months. This has proven to me; STEER & Co is just a **** and all comments I have read reflect true experiences and I believe all of them after my own experience. why do you need to push agents to do his/her work if they are always kind, accommodating, and helpful but not steer and agents specifically Chantal and Sandi. Why the credit check fee is R200? when all other agencies charge R100 or a maximum of R150 and never separate payments for both applicants. This is clearly to **** and rob you in broad daylight. I would never ever recommend these ******** to anyone who is desperately looking for a rental or sale you rather sleep in the street from dealing with these inhumane people who call themselves cape town preferred property professionals since 1879 when they are far from being professional and acting established since colonialism.
